MARTIN RON + JIANT Kitchen Hackney Wick – London, UK – 2015
Argentinian duo Martin Ron & Jiant hit up what is now one of London’s largest and most impressive murals on the building of Number 90, Hackney Wick.
Martin Ron paints hyper-realistic images, which often incorporate elements of fantasy or machinery, making for his own distinct style of urban surrealism. Where as Jiant’s works focus primarily on animals and fantasy driven landscapes, presenting a surreal depiction of the cosmic energy in the world.
This superb collaboration blends the two artists respective styles seamlessly, with Martin Ron offering up the pair of fragmentary hyper-realistic portraits, decorated by Jiant’s contrasting vibrant head dresses, set amid his encapsulating cosmic scenario, very much focusing on the positive natural energies in the world. This piece is just absorbing offering so much to look at and become lost in, the level of intricacy in both the artists contributions are just dominating. The hardened look in the two faces by Martin Ron is completely juxtaposed with the soft translucent effect created in Jiant’s work, making for one of the best collaborations we have seen in London at any point, and certainly for one of our favourites of 2015.
